WAIT FOR ME - Santa Montefiore

I was delighted and felt very privileged to receive an early copy of Wait For Me from Sara Jade Virtue at Simon and Schuster. It’s no secret, Santa Montefiore is one of my favourite authors. Her books always sweep me away and this was no exception.

This book was of special interest to me as one of the characters was a paratrooper landing at Arnhem, as was my father in law who was captured shortly after landing there.

1937, Gulliver’s Bay, Cornwall and the story of Florence, such an endearing character, a real rebel whose desire was to be an actress. Her story is based around her relationship with the popular Dash family, her loves and heartaches, and was both captivating and delightful.

Then in 1988 there’s Max, living in London with fiancĂ©e, Elizabeth, troubled by recurring, horrific dreams of battles and suffering. A chance meeting at a dinner party encourages him to escape from his current miserable situation and investigate these traumatic dreams.

What follows are many surprising coincidences (or are they?), that left me more than a little thoughtful, especially as this story, although fictional, is inspired by true events.

No matter what you believe, this is a compelling story of love, loss and self discovery and I absolutely loved it. Definitely different but nonetheless a cracking good read.
