FLAPPY ENTERTAINS - Santa Montefiore

Flappy Scott-Booth is the self-appointed queen bee of Badley Compton, a picturesque Devon village. While her husband Kenneth spends his days on the golf course, she is busy overseeing her beautiful house and gardens, and organising unforgettable events, surrounded by friends who hang on to her every word.

Her life is a reflection of herself – impossibly perfect.

Until the day that Hedda Harvey-Smith and her husband Charles move into the village. Into an even grander home than hers. Taking the front seat on the social scene, quite literally.

That simply will not do.

Flappy is determined to show Hedda how things are done here in Badley Compton. But then she looks into Charles’s beautiful green eyes. And suddenly, her focus is elsewhere. She is only human, after all…

My thoughts :

I am a huge fan of Santa Montefiore's books so I was ridiculously excited to receive an early proof of her latest release, Flappy Entertains. I was first introduced to Flappy Scott-Booth in a recent novel, The Temptation of Gracie, where Flappy was a minor supporting character.  She was such a huge, endearing personality that it was no big surprise she would become the lead character in her own novel.

Living at Darnley Manor with husband, Kenneth, Flappy is widely regarded as the Queen of Badley-Compton. She is the chair of her own book club and is well renowned for hosting the biggest and best parties. In fact she feels her status has risen to such heights that the time has come for her to employ her own personal assistant, though to be truthful, she is always busier delegating than actually doing anything herself.

When Charles and Hedda Harvey-Smith move into the village, Flappy feels her whole social status is suddenly under threat. She finds herself helplessly attracted to Charles and her heart is uncharacteristically all of aflutter, the like of which she has never felt before.

I found this book a deliciously cheerful read. Flappy is one of those characters that you really shouldn't like, yet can't help but love. Humorously deceitful in how she lives her daily life, you just know that underneath that confident, domineering exterior, there's a sensitive loving heart.

Flappy's antics really made me smile and lifted my spirits no end. Flappy Entertains is the perfect prescription for lockdown blues. A real tonic, Flappy certainly entertained me.

Flappy Entertains is published by Simon and Schuster on 4th March 2021, and available to buy through Bookshop.org HERE
